Sleeping beauty
Photo Description:
Plinth top sculpture measuring @ 26cms X 61cms X 26cms. Based on the origional story of Sleeping Beauty by the brothers Grimm, the inner structure mimics a DNA model. The central shaft is composed of three test tubes containing human and plant materials which contain DNA. The surrounding spirals are made of human hair with traces of the artit's own blood.. The structure is contained within an acrylic case covered in rose thorns. The artist has been keen to reference implications inherent in the meaning[s] of the folk tale and the implications and responsibilities for genetic research now and in the future.
