SCULPTURE PRIZE FOR SCHOOLS

* AN INTERNATIONAL ART PRIZE FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN UP TO AGE 18

Tsunami
Tsunami
Photo Description:
This piece is approximately a metre square and is inspired by the Tsunami in Japan. The pupil painted the wooden board with acrylics and painted torn paper together with Styrofoam to look like a piece of door that has been battered and washed up after the waters have receded. The children's clothing and teddy bear have been made by dipping the clothing in clay slip and biscuit fired. Letters written in Japanese from children to grandparents and others have been created and aged. These items both remind the viewer of the lost children and were also inspired by the memorial walls often decorated by friends and relatives who have lost loved ones in a disaster.
