College Of Visual And Performing Arts At

CVPA, the College of Visual and Performing Arts, is a comprehensive arts college with Bachelor's and Master's programs that prepare students for careers in the arts. To assure that its programs meet appropriate standards, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the national accrediting body for the visual arts.

Undergraduate students in the college may choose concentrations from a broad spectrum of the arts, all of which provide a framework for developing a high degree of professional competence and pursuing individual creative goals. Essential to this framework are the academic programs and resources of the whole university.

Students of Visual Design may select Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, or Electronic Imaging and receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Design. Students of Artisanry may select Ceramics, Jewelry/ Metals, or Textile Design/Fiber Arts and receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Academic Staff and Description

CVPA faculty are artists, musicians, composers, and educators, each distinguished in her or his field. Many are recipients of such prestigious awards as the National Endowment for the Arts, Massachusetts Cultural Council grants, and national and international arts fellowships. Faculty exhibit in galleries and museums, and perform on concert stages and smaller venues both here and abroad.

Faculty bring their high level of expertise, their expansive experience, their creative spirit, and their knowledge of the visual and performing arts world with them into the classroom. They interact closely with their students challenging, them to be the best they can be. Faculty are accessible and encourage ongoing dialogue.  

News and Events

The College of Visual and Performing Arts presents a full schedule of visual and performing arts events annually including: Guest Artist Series in Music, the Visual and Performing Arts Series, and CVPA's Electronic Imaging Festival.

There is an annual Jazz Festival. Additionally, each semester the Stage Band, Concert Band, and Chorus present concerts. Additionally, music students perform annually with the Seniors in a Senior Recital.

University Art Gallery presents changing exhibitions which include national and international artists as well as students from the College's Master of Fine Arts programs. Fine Arts students present an annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition.

The UMass Dartmouth Theater Company presents several productions each academic year.
