Faculty Of Fine Arts Lisbon

Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon is a public institution, which offers higher education courses, providing fulfilling programs in Fine Arts and Artist preparation. It has been part of the University of Lisbon since 1992, although its origins date back to 1836. Then known as the Academy of Fine Arts. It was founded at S. Francisco Convent in the historic Heart of Lisbon, where it still resides today.

Today the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon, committed to creative activity and scholarships in all the arts, has 1200 students. To obtain the degree in the Arts and Design, requires a four year course consisting of five principal curriculums: Painting, Sculpture, Communication Design, Equipment Design and Art and Multimedia. All the courses last 4 years.

This Faculty offers also Masters in Painting, Drawing, Theory of Art, Curating. Our graduation programmes combine artistic practice with theoretical studies. Information For  International Students

Fees
An exchange student will not be charged fees at the FBAUL. Nevertheless an exchange student will enjoy all rights and duties of a regular student at the host institution.

Enrolment and Insurance
Exchange students can only be enrolled at the school upon presenting proof of being a member of a health insurance system, either public or private. Students from countries in the European Union should present the European Social security form document proof of membership in a private health insurance.

Language
Courses are given in Portuguese only. The Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa provides Portuguese language courses for exchange students free of charge.
Erasmus students interested in the language courses should inform the International Relational Office from Faculdade de Belas-Artes (Cristina Rego).

 


Student Facilities

Computing facilities
With your own student card, computing facilities are available at the faculty for free of charge for the foreign exchange students. This includes an Internet connection.
The students have to pay the printing paper themselves.

Sports activities
The University Stadium is situated on the University Campus and offers a wide range of sportive activities. To participate in some activities you should present a medical certificate.

Students meals
The students of Faculdade de Belas-Artes are entitled to a reduction of the regular meal prices at the specificed cafeterias. The price to be paid is about 2 EUR a meal.  


Accommodation

Monthly rents in Lisbon vary from 200 to 450 euros per room costs. Lunch or dinner at the canteen from the University of Lisbon 1.90 EUR. One ticket for the public transport costs approx. 1 EUR.

There is a few places at the student residence, for that Erasmus students should contact the Erasmus office as early as possible.  


How To Apply

Exchange Student Application:

The exchange program of Faculdade de Belas-Artes from University of Lisbon (FBAUL), is based on institutional cooperation. Therefore students interested in obtaining the status of an exchange student at this school must apply at their home institution, which will choose candidates from the applicants. In order to accept you as an Erasmus student, the International Relations office must receive from your home university a letter standing that you have been selected as an Erasmus student, by 31 of July.
Prospective exchange students in Fine Arts should send the application form, a list of courses to be taken during the exchange (Learning Agreement), and are advised to present a small portfolio (eight to ten slides or photos of their own work) to allow optimal placement at FBAUL.
Please note that we only accept applications sent and confirmed by the International Office of the home university.
