Academic Staff and Description

The School of Art offers a faculty of dedicated teachers that are student-oriented and come from a wide range of disciplines as well as geography. All have terminal degrees in their field and are experts at what they do as working artists. Our instructors are graduates of such schools as Alfred University, The University of Delaware, The University of Georgia, The University of Illinois, The University of Iowa, Long Beach State University, Louisiana Tech University, Memphis College of Art, Ole Miss, The University of Pennsylvania, The University of Washington, Kansas Sate University, The University of Indiana and New Mexico State University.

With this diversity of influences comes a diversity of ideas, styles, and individual philosophies, all encouraged so that we can provide our students with an open dialogue concerning their growing awareness of their view of the world. We support a philosophy of tolerance of new ideas tempered by the development of justifications of the art making process. We promote understanding art at its roots while progressively exploring the nature of what art can be.

Information For  Undergraduates

The BFA Studio Program provides a curriculum stressing a strong foundation in drawing and design. It concentrates on developing the student’s sensory awareness, ability to think in response to it, and proficiency in the visualization of thought through the manipulation of materials and processes. The first year, students are guided through the core curriculum where thorough training in the fundamentals of drawing and design are coupled with color theory and conceptual design. During the sophomore year, students take a series of survey courses which introduce them to painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. This survey allows the students to engage themselves in a form of art making that will best express their own personal artistic development. The junior and senior years involve a concentration in one of the various studio disciplines where they can begin to hone their skills and expand their conceptual knowledge.

The Photography Program at Louisiana Tech provides the student with a well-rounded body of knowledge that can be applied to any photograph...  [ Read All ]
