The New World School of the Arts (NWSA) is Florida 's premier center of excellence in the visual and performing arts. As a conservatory, NWSA develops talented students in the areas of dance, music, theater and visual arts from the ninth grade in high school through a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor in Music college degree.

NWSA offers a solid artistic program headed by some of the finest award winning faculty members recognized world wide. Our programs are cutting-edge, stimulating and rich with the ethnic and cultural diversity that represents artistic trends globally.

Students at NWSA benefit from numerous and unique opportunities including world renowned faculty and guest artists, internships, foreign exchange visits and artistic and cultural events unique to South Florida.

Our Aims

New World School of the Arts is a Florida center of excellence in the visual and performing arts. NWSA provides a comprehensive program of artistic, creative and academic development through a curriculum that reflects the rich multicultural state of Florida.

The school empowers students to become state, national and international leaders in the arts, challenging them with innovative ideas as they prepare for professional careers in a global community. These principles guide intensive and rigorous education for talented high school and college arts students.

New World School of the Arts fulfills its mission by:

Location and Getting there

With a population of 2 million people, Miami blends a big city business climate, superb cultural and sporting events, outdoor recreational activities and a diverse international population into a unique lifestyle. Miami is home to the New World Symphony, the Miami City Ballet and the Miami Opera. Dade County hosts a wide variety of local and regional cultural organizations in all art forms. In addition, our new Performing Arts Center is being built a few blocks north of NWSA and is set to open next year.

New World School of the Arts is located in the heart of Miami. It is easily accessible by mass transit. Free parking is available on Miami-Dade College campus. Major cultural and recreational opportunities are located within walking distance in each direction of campus. The Dade County Cultural Arts plaza nearby is home to the Dade County Library, the Historical Museum and the Miami Art Museum. The new American Airline Arena and the Gusman Theater are host to a wide variety of events. Bayside is a wonderland of shops, restaurants and entertainment on Biscayne Bay, just four blocks from NWSA.

Through its gifted, emerging artists and unique programs, New World School of the Arts has become an educational and creative beacon of the arts. As an aspiring artist in the Visual Arts Division, you will have the opportunity to join these exceptionally talented students as you dedicate yourself to the pursuit of your artistic career in the visual, graphic or electronic arts.

Trained by nationally renowned practicing artists, you will be encouraged to develop a personal, artistic and aesthetic vision while mastering your technical skills in traditional and new media. Students are allowed to explore new paths while at the same time being exposed to the work of both classical and contemporary masters.

The comprehensive curriculum, rich in challenges, explorations and discoveries, culminates in the senior B.F.A. Exhibition.

NWSA Visual Arts Alumni Successes

Damian Mendez, ( NWSA BFA 2003 Visual Arts) is presently working for a publishing company in New Jersey which owns over 45 diverse magazines ranging from aviation, electronics, design and engineering. Damian creates websites, flash animations, works on layouts, ads and some covers. He is excited about his dynamic design team and learning new programs and skills….

The Visual Arts division has won Presidential Scholar awards for three years in a row. Vera Arias (High School ’04) was the 2004 Presidential Scholar. National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) $10,000 Gold Medal winner for visual arts. NFAA ARTS week winner. She won a full scholarship to study at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Chat Travieso (High School ‘03) 2003 Presidential Scholar. NFAA ARTS week Winner. He won the $10,000 first prize 2003 Latino Art Beat Competition and is now studying at Maryland Institute College of Art.
