North Georgia State University

North Georgia College & State University is a coeducational state university emphasizing strong liberal arts, as well as pre-professional, professional, and graduate programs. Serving as a liberal arts university for all of its students and as a military college for its Corps of Cadets, the university is distinct in many ways. As the only four-year public institution in northeast Georgia, NGCSU offers a quality college experience in a beautiful mountain setting, about an hour north of Atlanta.

Specializing in leadership training and producing leaders since 1873, the university has been designated by the state as The Leadership Institution of Georgia .

The art program at North Georgia College & State University stresses the importance of producing quality artwork. Disciplines of study include drawing, painting, printmaking, weaving, textile design, ceramics, sculpture, photography, and computer graphics. Each graduating senior is required to install a senior exhibit, presenting their best work in their chosen field of study. Limited scholarships are available to talented and qualified fine arts students.

Student Facilities

John L. Nix Mountain Cultural Center
Located on the circle drive on the interior of the campus below gold-domed Price Memorial Hall, the John L. Nix Mountain Cultural Center houses classrooms, studios, and offices for the Art, Music, and Theatre programs.

Departmental Offices
The Fine Arts Department Office is located on the main floor of Nix Cultural Center in room 216. Art faculty offices are on the main floor; music and theatre faculty offices are on the third floor.

Fine Arts Gallery
The Fine Arts Gallery is located on the top floor of the Hoag Student Center across from the Great Room.

Gloria Shott Performance Hall
The intimate, 150-seat Shott Performance Hall is located on the second floor of the Nix Mountan Cultural Center.

Health & Natural Sciences Auditorium
This Auditorium is located on the second floor of the Health & Natural Sciences building, which is on the West side of campus, across Main Street on Sunset Drive.

Hoag Student Center Auditorium
Hoag Auditorium is located on the North end of the top floor of Hoag Student Center.

Student Life

The Student Center is the community center of the University for all members of the University family; students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and guests. As the "Living Room" or "hearthstone" of the University community, the Student Center provides the services, conveniences, and amenities the members of the University family need for getting to know and understand one another through informal association outside the classroom. To accomplish these goals the Student Center houses the bookstore, uniform store, post office, snack bar, Cyber Cafe, print services, theater, art gallery, TV lounge, meeting rooms, and the offices of the Student Activities Board, Commuter Council and the Student Government Association.  


North Georgia College and State University embraces the philosophy that living in a campus residence hall is an important part of a university experience. The learning that occurs through experiences in decision-making, critical thinking, and taking responsibility within the residence halls will be invaluable throughout one's life.
