The School of Art and Design at the University of Salford offers innovative and challenging courses in design and the visual arts, including fashion, graphics, interior and product design. With more than 1000 students, our courses are designed to equip you with the personal and professional skills you need throughout your career.

We are a major figure in art and design education. We have students studying courses at foundation year, undergraduate and postgraduate levels, through to PhD. Our Art and Design Research Centre is part of a 6* rated research institute (the highest possible rating).

Our courses are known for their prize-winning achievements. Location and Getting there

The University of Salford campus is less than a mile and a half (three kilometres) from Manchester City Centre, one of Britain's most exciting cities. It has excellent transport links with Salford Crescent railway station on campus and a regular bus service. It is only a couple of minutes' drive from the motorway network and less than 20 minutes' drive from Manchester International Airport. Visit for travel routes and detailed maps.

Information For  International Students

There are around 2,500 students from over 80 countries studying at Salford. Student Facilities

We have extensive computing facilities with industry standard hardware and software enabling digital video editing, digital manipulation, 3D computer modelling and animation, programming and authoring. Well-resourced workshops support 3D design and visual arts work in wood, metal, plastics and soft modelling. There are also comprehensive fashion production facilities and print and fibre workshops. These facilities are run by an experienced team of support staff whose focus is student learning.

What we offer: We provide good accommodation at very reasonable prices. In fact, students at the University pay amongst the lowest rents in the country. What’s more, all of our residents get free membership to the University sports centre for the duration of their contract. There’s also a free term-time bus service around campus to your door.

What accommodation is available? Accommodation is in self-catering houses and flats. Each student gets their own single study bedroom. There are 3250 study bedrooms located on and around campus. Accommodation is also available for students with disabilities and for students with children.

Our promise: We guarantee accommodation to all new first year undergraduate students and postgraduate students. Provided you have accepted an unconditional offer of admission to the University and have submitted an online application form by 1 September 2007, you’re guaranteed a place to stay.

How To Apply

Undergraduates: Applications for places on undergraduate courses in the School of Art & Design are normally made through the UCAS system. Students can apply for a place on any art and design course at Salford via UCAS Routes A and B. Salford's institution code name is SALF and the institution code is S03.

Postgraduates: Applications for places on postgraduate courses in the School of Art & Design should be submitted to the School. When we receive your application form it is considered by the course leader.
