St Peter’s Eaton Square Church of England School visited the Saatchi Gallery in September. The children learnt about JR’s work with a guided tour of his Chronicles exhibition, followed by a workshop exploring themes in the exhibition and portrait photography.
Following their visit, the children continued to learn about early photographic processes through the work of Anna Atkins and the created cyanotype portraits using negative images, drawing onto transparent film to and placing found-objects on hand-made light-sensitive paper.
The ‘Drawing with Light’ project aims to demonstrate a strong, inspiring and uplifting sense of resilience, friendship and community through creativity, particularly after the past year or so of challenges and isolation.
With Artist- in -resident, Lorraine McCourt, the children were able to explore exciting and new approaches, giving them new levels of creativity and ways to express themselves collectively through these difficult times. The Head of Learning, Lala Thorpe also visited the school to give a school assembly about Saatchi Gallery and the JR:Chronicles exhibition.
Our Learning programme is proud to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity for all the community to come together in a celebration of the artworks created by the children of St Peter’s.
The project has been generously funded by The Pimlico St. Peter's Trust
