Open age continues its partnership with Saatchi Gallery with a community exhibition in our Learning Gallery. The exhibition open brief was ‘WRINKLES IN THE CITY’ responding directly to our current exhibition JR: Chronicles. Over the past two decades French artist JR has emerged as one of our most powerful storytellers and connectors of diverse worlds and communities. The largest exhibtion of his work in the UK opened at the Saatchi Gallery, June 4th – Oct 3rd 2021.
JR’s Wrinkles of the City project has been presented in various cities around the world where “wrinkles”, human as well as architectural, can be found. We invited members of Open Age to create an artwork of any medium, responding to the brief. Members were asked to reflect on their own experiences of aging and the buildings that have meant the most to them over the course of their lives. Members created a range of artworks that reflected on different stages of their lives living in London.
Open Age was established in 1993 and we’re now celebrating over 25 years of championing an active life for older people. We work across Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham to enable anyone aged 50 or older to sustain their physical and mental fitness, maintain an active lifestyle and develop new and stimulating interests. At open age we provide opportunities for our members to take part in meaningful activities, strengthen their sense of community, rediscover old hobbies, find new ones, make new friends, and most of all, have fun! By doing this we can combat loneliness and isolation and improve the health and wellbeing of older Londoners.
