Photo Description:
The museum houses many fine works of art from the 18th and 19th century European and American artists. Jean-Leon Gerome was a french painter, scultpor, and engraver. Like many of his contemporaries, Gerome was lured by the romanticism of exotic lands, and he traveled to North Africa and the Near East and produced a series of Oriental genres and figure studies. Adophe William Bouguereau was french artist popular in the late 19th century. His sentimental style, combined the idealism of Raphael and Reni with photographic exactitude of detail. His paintings included mythological scenes, genre, religious subjects and histories. Harry Roseland is a teller of stories on canvas. His genre paintings are close-up views, usually of African-Americans at home.
