Families - Miami Art Museum

Throughout the year, MAM offers an array of enjoyable programs and activities for young people and families to learn about art and discover new ways of seeing together. Through MAM Art Caravan and MAM in the Neighborhood, Miami Art Museum collaborates with community-based organizations and county agencies to reach Miami-Dade County’s youth, especially in underserved areas.

Second Saturdays are Free for Families
Every Second Saturday from 1 –4pm. Free.
Every Second Saturday, MAM’s education staff invites families to tour exhibitions and create a fun art project inspired by the art on view. In addition, Second Saturdays occasionally include live music, storytelling and other performances. This is a fun-filled afternoon for children and adults to explore the museum, learn something new, create art and enjoy time together.

MAM Family Festival
Second Saturday in April from 1 – 4pm. Free
Organized by Miami Art Museum, this special Second Saturdays are Free for Families day, held each April, fills the Miami-Dade Cultural Plaza with music and an extravaganza of games and art-related activities. Children and their families are invited to spend the afternoon and stretch their imaginations. Youth-friendly tours and performances are offered throughout the day. Our Cultural Plaza neighbors, the Miami-Dade Public Library and the Historical Museum of Southern Florida join us for this celebration.

MAM Art Caravan
Most Fourth Saturdays
MAM Art Caravan builds on the success of the museum’s Second Saturdays are Free for Families and MAM in the Neighborhood programs. This program brings monthly interactive family art workshops to community centers, parks and fairs throughout the county, from Hialeah to Homestead, significantly expanding MAM’s contribution to underserved audiences. MAM’s professional education staff brings art activities connected to works currently on exhibition to audiences not likely to have visited the museum before. Participants receive passes for free museum visitation to foster cultural accessibility. MAM Art Caravan usually takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month during the school year, except November and December.

MAM Art Caravan is supported in part by Bank of America.

MAM in the Neighborhood
Summer program. Free
In collaboration with Miami-Dade County parks, community-based associations, religious organizations and agencies, MAM’s education staff visits a wide range of community centers throughout Miami-Dade County each summer and leads youth groups in art activities. MAM Funpacks, filled with art supplies, are distributed to each participant and materials for a group art project are provided for the center. MAM invites day-camps and other groups to visit the museum for exhibition tours led by gallery teachers. Free buses are provided on request.
