Forthcoming Exhibitions - Museo del Traje, C.I.P.E.

9th May - 23rd September 2007

As a result of the cooperation between The Kyoto Costume Institute and the Museo del Traje, MODACHROME is coming to Madrid.

MODACHROME explores the historical and social relations between fashion and colour from the XVIII century until today by means of five thematic areas which show all dresses around one concept: THE COLOUR.

The pieces on show at Modachrome sum up the last three centuries of Western and Eastern fashion. Some of them date back to the XVIII and XIX centuries, some other represent the XX century with names like Mariano Fortuny, Madeleine Vionnet, Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto or Junya Watanabe as well as the last provocative creations of the XXI century like John Galliano, Donatella Versace, Pucci, Miyake and Dolce&Gabbana.

The Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI), a prestigious institution founded in 1978, focuses its activities on showing its collections which consist of more than 11.000 cloths and accessories related to Western fashion. In cooperation with the world's most important museums the KCI has organized a series of temporal exhibits which have been travelling around the world's most important international costume museums.

Fifty-three pieces coming from the collections of both institutions will introduce a new approach of fashion history focussed on the colour. The scope of this project is to draw the visitor's attention to the pleasure and the dynamism that colour inspires. Along history fashion has shaped the main features of the society in which it was growing. Some historical movements like the Rococó, the Modernism and the Pop Art influenced both fashion and colour.
