A contemporary art space in the centre of the New Forest, ArtSway is a unique place to see, discuss, make and engage with internationally significant contemporary visual art. ArtSway's annual Open submission exhibition, displaying themes and concerns in contemporary art practice. The winner will be offered a solo exhibition at ArtSway in late 2007.

Opening hours

ArtSway is open Tuesday - Sunday 11am - 5pm. Out of hours viewing can be arranged by appointment by contacting the gallery.

Getting there

ArtSway is located in Sway, in the heart of the New Forest, Hampshire.

By rail: ArtSway is just opposite Sway Station. Sway is on the London (Waterloo) to Weymouth line.

By car: Follow local signs to Sway from Brockenhurst, Burley or Lymington. Nearest Motorway, M27 Westbound.

Parking: ArtSway has a gallery car park.


Gallery space, education space, craft and gift shop and resource library.

All areas of ArtSway are accessible for wheelchair users, and a disabled toilet is available. Baby changing facilities available.

If you require further assistance please call to arrange for a member of staff to be available to assist you. iPod Audio guides and Braille are both available for you to see what is currently happening and what is available in the future.

Portfolio day for Photographers
Join artist Beate Gütschow ArtSway's Exhibitions Officer Peter Bonnell and receive professional critical support and advice. For student, amateur and professional photographers. Cost £10. Places are limited, booking essential. Call Peter Bonnell on 01590 682260 x 14 to book your place.


Teachers packs available online for every exhibition.


ArtSway staff can provide free tours and talks for groups. Please call 01590 682260 to arrange your visit.


ArtSway welcomes school visits to the gallery, and can provide workshops, talks and activites free of charge. Teachers Packs are available online. Please contact ArtSway Exhibitions & Education Officer Peter Bonnell to arrange a school visit.


Dinky Da Vincis: Tuesdays, 10am – 11am
Creative, arty and above all fun workshops for the little ones, ages 1 - 3 years old, with their
parents, grandparents or carers. Cost: £3 per child. Workshops start again on 16 January 2007,
and take place every fortnight during school term-time.

Pre-school Picassos: Saturdays, 10.30am – 11.30am
Encounters with art for pre-school 3 - 5 year olds and their parents, grandparents or carers.
Every fortnight, beginning 20 January 2007, led by artist Lesley Green.
Cost: £4 per child. Workshops take place the first Saturday of each month.

All ages are welcome at ArtSway, and we can provide activites and worksheets for little ones. Baby changing facilites available.


After School Art Clubs 4pm - 5:30pm
Fun, creativity and learning for kids of any ability with ArtSway Artists. Cost: £5 per session
Tuesdays: 5 - 7 year-olds (with Marcia Hull)
Wednesdays: 8 - 11 year-olds (with Laura Joy)
Thursdays: 5 - 7 year-olds (with Mia Khalaf)

Saturday Morning Art Club
Two hours of fun and creativity with artist Marcia Hull, for 6 – 11 year olds.
10am – 12noon Cost: £6 per child

All ages are welcome at ArtSway, and we can provide activites and worksheets for little ones. Baby changing facilites available.

Short Courses for Adults
COST: £45 for four weeks (including most materials)

Painting with Acrylics
An introduction to the basic techniques of acrylic painting. With New Milton-based painter
Dave White. Course dates: Mondays 5, 12, 19 & 26 Februar y 2007, 7pm – 9pm

Intermediate Watercolour
An opportunity to build upon existing skills, and to learn and develop new and exciting techniques.
With artist Lisa Foey. Course dates: Mondays 5, 12, 19 & 26 March 2007, 7pm – 9pm

Introduction to Printmaking
An introductory course into basic printmaking without the need for a press, exploring the
techniques of collage, monoprint, linocut and chine colle. With Southampton-based artist Laura
Joy. Course dates: Tuesdays 3, 10, 17 & 24 April 2007, 7pm – 9pm

Life Drawing
An opportunity to develop your life drawing skills with artist Gina Dearden.
Regular sessions every fortnight on Thursday evenings. COST: £10 per session
Classes begin again on 18 January 2007, 7pm - 9pm
