Cinémateque Québécoise

The Cinématheque Quebecoise’s objective is to conserve, document and put into value national and international cinematographic and televisual heritage. It is a dynamic space, whose architecture reflects its accessibility.
It welcomes all those who are interested in history, current events, and the future of cinema, television and new media.
Founded in 1963, the centre’s expertise is universally recognised in the domains of Quebecian, Canadian and International production, as well as in international animation.

Permanent Collection

The film and television collection are the heart itself of the Cinemateque. They are classified according to physical particularities (film / video / black and white / colour etc) and benefit from environment in which temperature and humidity are strictly controlled.
The Cinemateque has an astounding collection, thanks to forty years of preservation and archiving. The collection holds over 35 000 international films, 25 000 television programs, 28 000 posters, 600 000 photos, 2 000 pieces of machinery, 15 000 scripts and documents, 45 000 books, 3 000 magazines and thousands of files and objects on subjects as diverse as decor and costume.

This exhibition explores a journey through 60 years of television, from the collection of Moses Znaimer, in collaboration with MZTV Museum and Panasonic.

FORMES EN MOUVEMENT (Forms in Movement)
An exhibition paying homage to celebrated animators, and presenting animation machinery, drawings and puppets, in collaboration with l’Office National du Film.

Opening hours

From Tuesday to Friday, from 11am to 8pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 4pm to 8pm.
From 25 June to 12 September, the museum closes at 5pm from Tuesday to Friday.

Getting there

Situated in the Latin Quarter, between rue St Denis and rue Sanguinet, close to the Université du Quebec a Montréal and the National Archives Library.
Metro Berri – UQAM, and take the Maisonneuve exit.
