The Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery houses a world-famous collection of paintings, prints and drawings, all presented in the elegant, 18th century surroundings of Somerset House.

Permanent Collection

The permanent collection ranges from Renaissance masterpieces, through iconic Impressionist paintings, such as Manet’s Bar at the Folies-Bergère, Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Renoir’s La Loge, and through to the 20th century.


A programme of special exhibitions, often organised in partnership with other world-renowned galleries, draws on research conducted within the Courtauld Institute of Art.

A stunning exhibition of drawings by Guercino, one of the most versatile draughtsmen of the 17th century, and known by his contemporaries as ‘the Rembrandt of the south’.

Temptation in Eden: Lucas Cranach’s Adam and Eve
21 June – 23 September 2007
Explore the making and meaning of this beguiling image at the first UK exhibition dedicated to Lucas Cranach the Elder, a contemporary of Dürer and one of the greatest painters of the German Renaissance.


£5 (£4 concs), Free admission Mondays 10am – 2pm. Free entry for under 18s, full-time UK students and registered unwaged.
