Eastern Edge Gallery was created by local artists in 1984. It was part of a movement by artists, especially women artists, across Canada to take charge of the way their art was presented and contextualized. Eastern Edge is not a commerical gallery. We are not a public gallery with an education, curatorial and collecting mandate. Our mandate is to act as the point of exchange where you can find out what's going on in contemporary visual art on a local, national and international level.
The work that you see at Eastern Edge is uncensorted and unmediated. It was chosen by a programming committee made up of local volunteer artists from submissions made by local, national and international artists. From installation to performance-based works, contemporary art often has to be experienced. Eastern Edge is the only organization devoted solely to presenting contemporary artwork in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Your membership fee supports Eastern Edge's role as a crossroads for local, national and international contemporary artists to make connections, challenge, experiment, discuss, present and share ideas through exhibitions and other programs.
As a member, you will receive:

* an invitation to submit work to Eastern Edge's Annual Membership Show
* information on EE's activities
* access to gallery equipment, resources and archives
* voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting
* a chance to work hands on with other artists and practitioners

Eastern Edge is committed to promoting professional standards for artists, curators and cultural workers by adhering to the CARFAC fee schedule.
