The kunstraum muenchen is a registered association and understands itself as forum for recent contemporary art. The emphasis of the association work is on the exhibition of works of international and regional artist and the production of accompanying catalogs. Moreover the kunstraum muenchen engages itself in the realization of new artistic projects and their communication to the public. The exhibition program is compiled by benevolent curators. Thus the kunstraum muenchen is in the unique situation, not only to present modern art trends, but also to be able to test different curatorial approaches to art communication.
A change of generations in the executive committee (1995) was the starting point for the opening of the program to contemporary art and for their multimedial manifestations. Since then besides works of painting and photography, comprehensive spacial installations were shown, for instance in the exhibitions of Maureen Connor (1997) and Yana Milev (1998). The artists Qin Yufen (1999) and Janet Cardiff worked (1999) with audiovisual techniques. The kunstraum muenchen is constantly engaged in the development of new media art forms as for example in "LaraCroft: ism "(1999) and "LowTech " (2000). The media Crossover between fine arts and music became the topic in "If I ruled world" (1998).
