Margulies Collection At The WAREhOUSE
The Warehouse, a not-for profit institution dedicated to the presentation of exhibitions and educational programs that explore contemporary art, occupies a 45,000 sqf. facility located in the Miami Wynwood Arts District. Major works are on display, drawn from the photography, sculpture, and installation art collection of prominent Miami art collector Martin Z. Margulies.
In 1998, Martin Margulies along with his longtime curator Katherine Hinds, began to consider creating a space suitable for displaying the growing vintage and contemporary photography, video and installation art segment of the extensive Margulies Contemporary Art Collection. In 1999, the first phase of the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse opened to the public with an event to benefit the Lowe Museum at the University of Miami. After a series of expansions, the Warehouse collection now comprises 45,000 square feet of exhibition space with set hours each week.
The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse displays a seasonal exhibition of new photography, sculpture, video and installation works and regularly offers special educational programs to the public. Free admission, lectures for students, guided tours, prominent guest speakers and national conferences are all factors designed by the Martin Z Margulies Foundation to improve public accessibility and interaction with contemporary art.
Katherine Hinds, has been the curator of the collection since 1982
