Museo Alejandro Otero

The Museo Alejandro Otero was created as a posthumous homage to the precursor of modernism in Venezuela. The museum, which bears the name of the painter Alejandro Otero, was inaugurated in 1990 and is dedicated to contemporary art.

The collection includes works and documents belonging to Otero as well as work by the most important Venezuelan artists from the first half of the 20th century. The museum’s programme of acquisitions has been enriched in particular with the backing of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.

The MAO is a museum with both national and international prestige. Its exhibitions (collective and individual) are complemented by forums, workshops, conferences and guided visits. It allows visitors to appreciate the evolution of contemporary Venezuelan art since its beginnings in the 20th century.
