Museo De La Acuarela Rafael Requena
The Museo de la Acuarela Rafael Requena is one of the most important museums in the world in terms of the exhibition of watercolours. It houses an interesting retrospective of the work of Rafael Requena, the great painter from Caudete of international renown.
The collection is made up of 74 watercolours including some of his most outstanding work. Landscapes are also the main theme of the museum: wide plains, rural scenes and the lands of La Mancha. Some portraits and several beautiful still lifes, created with great skill, complete the collection.
Rafael Requena gave his work a personal seal which has made it a modern classic and a reference point in the genre of watercolours. His paintings reveal a mastery of light and colour, creating atmospheres that constantly drift between realism and romanticism and giving life to landscapes charged with psychological connotations.
The Museo Rafael Requena offers visitors the only permanent collection of this much-admired master. Through the contemplation of his work we can immerse ourselves in a world in which watercolours reach sublime heights.

The collection of watercolours is made up of works of a single themes and seriesâ, and with landscapes as a predominant feature: wide plains and rural, marine and mountain scenes. All of these have a great expressive force, revealing a vibrant atmosphere full of evocations. There are also some exquisite still lifes such as "La Botella de AnÃs" (1 950), "Jarrón de Flores" (1951), and the beautiful portraits "Josefina" (1952) and "Mi abuela Pepica" (1950), where the painter shows his complete domination of drawing and colour.
The collection also includes some outstanding natural instants with a generic theme: "Primavera" (1998), "Contraluz" (1998), "Paisaje nevado" (1998), "Ãrboles en invierno" (1959), "Amapolas" (1996) and "Nubes de Tormenta" (1989). In these landscapes nature reaches sublime heights and the sky, always different, is charged with chromatic matrices and poetic evocations. It inevitably turns into a co-protagonist of the paintings.
The Castill-La Mancha countryside, land and people, seen through the painterâs singular and poetic perspective, has a privileged space in the collection: "Atardecer en La Mancha" (1989), "Tierras de Guadalajara" (1981), "Tormenta sobre los campos de La Mancha" (1985), "Panorámica manchega desde Chinchilla" (1986) and "Cuenca" (1987).
Allusions to Caudate, Requenaâs home town, are also inevitable: "Calle del Mercado" (1959), "SÃmbolos festeros" (1 988), "Los Bailes del Niño" (1995), "Ermita de la Virgen de Gracia" (1998) and"Panorámica Caudetana" (1998).
Rafael Requena immortalised many places during his numerous journeys abroad. This leaves us with romantic and evocative images of distant landscapes: "Ams...+ [ Read all ]
