Museo Guerrero Malagón

On the 29th September 2001, Mariano Guerrero Malagón, painter and beloved son of the town of Urda, decided to donate part of his vast collection of work to the brotherhood of the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera-Cruz. A building was erected next to the brotherhood’s sanctuary in which to house the collection.

This building was blessed and inaugurated on the 20th September 1992 by the Bishop of Toledo Rafael Palmero Ramos. It consists of three floors which hold the more than 200 paintings and sketches donated by Malagón.

Permanent Collection

The collection is the fruit of many years of work by Malagón. Some of his most famous oil paintings can be seen here, such as El entierro de Don Quijote, Retrato del Padre Atanasio, La Cosecha, Paisaje de Cuenca and Retrato de Alonso Quijano. There are also two sketches created for the Universidad Laboral de Talavera de la Reina, a sketch for the church of the Hermanos Maristas de Toledo and several drawings from 1954 that represent a series of bullfighting images.

The collection also contains busts, statues and numerous sketches used as preparatory works for larger paintings created by the artist.
