Museo Taurino De Valencia

The Bullfighting Museum of Valencia was founded thanks to funds donated by Luis Moróder Peiró and the picador José Bayard Badila – two bullfighting memento collectors who gathered together a significant number of Valencian objects and bullfighting materials in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Valencia Bullfighting Museum has been instrumental in documenting part of the nation’s bullfighting legacy, contributing to the public’s knowledge of this unique cultural manifestation. This is why the exhibits show the key elements in the development of this art, subject as it is to age-old customs and regulations, and starring two essential characters: man vs. bull.

Permanent Collection

The Museum was able to start up a permanent collection, initiating a period of exhibiting Valencian and Spanish tauromachy that covers practically the whole century. This extensive chronology provides an overview of all periods of Valencian bullfighting and their key figures: masters of the 19th century, the figure of Granero in the Golden Age of Spanish Bullfighting, the post-Civil War years, the 50s and 60s – the decades in which the bullfighting festival rose to fame – and the other kinds of fighters, such as comic fighters, subalternos or members of support teams, and notable Valencian fighters in recent times.

In addition to local bullfighting history, the Museum also introduces the public to the heritage of the Valencian Bullring itself, a traditional venue for meetings and social celebrations – the bullfighting coliseum of Valencia – in which highly significant annals of the history of Spanish tauromachy have been written since 1859.
