Tang Teaching Museum And Art Gallery

The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum, designed by Antoine Predock is sited dramatically on Skidmore's scenic campus. The contemporary art museum's mission incorporates a focus on ideas, and regular use of the galleries as teaching space in educating us on new ways to view the arts.

Permanent Collection

A permanent collection of over 4,500 pieces is used primarily as a learning resource for faculty and students. Objects from the collection are often on view in the exhibitions.


As many as twelve new exhibitions each year fall into two catergories; large scale projects combining a wide variety of objects shown with works of internationally known contemporay artists, and retrospective solo artist exhibitions.

Approx. 180 miles from New York, Boston and Montreal, Canada
By automobile drive north on I87 from Albany, NY to Exit 15.
Parking lots next to the building, include bus parking.


Handicapped accessible with wheelchair available.
Small contemporary museum store.
Restrooms, baby changing and coatroom with lockers are provided.

Education and Public Programs department develops artist lectures, curator tours, Family Saturday children activities, films and music series.


Group bus tours are welcome. With advance notice, docent led tours are available.


A large Kindergarten through 12th grade program incorporates object based learning. Exposing children to the arts through activities in the galleries, or at area schools and libraries .
