Local Royalty is a new exhibition from Coca-Cola Great Britain celebrating the café, pub, takeaway and corner shop owners at the heart of communities across Great Britain.
The exhibition brings together four portraits of independent business owners from Barnsley, Glasgow, South Devon and South East London, immortalised in a manner historically reserved for royalty, titans of industry and stars of stage and screen.
The portraits have been created by four celebrated artists, each of whom has previously been commissioned to paint a member of the Royal Family.
- Nicky Philipps, two-time portrait painter to the late Queen Elizabeth II, has painted Pindy Kaur of Ocean Fish Bar in Barnsley
- Jamie Coreth, who painted the first official portrait of the Prince and Princess of Wales, has painted Simon Dafforn-Jones of the Ferry Boat Inn in Dittisham
- Gareth Reid, portrait artist to King Charles III while he was Prince of Wales, has painted Gino Verecchia of University Café in Glasgow
- Nick Bashall, portrait painter to Princess Anne, has painted Kaual Patel of Torridon Convenience Store in Catford
The exhibition comes as new research from Coca-Cola Great Britain reveals that 79% of the public believe the contribution independent business owners make to their local communities is underappreciated. Meanwhile, 87% describe independent businesses as an essential part of life in Great Britain and 80% want to see them celebrated more often.
Local Royalty is the third instalment in Coca-Cola GB’s ‘Made in Great Britain’ campaign, celebrating the impact of its independent retail partners on local communities and economies.
