An exhibition by Open Age

Several of the artists featured in The Sun and The Moon gained their most significant recognition later in life. Although Leonora Carrington was known within Surrealist circles in her twenties and thirties, it was not until her eighties and nineties that she received widespread institutional recognition. Cecil Collins struggled financially and critically for much of his life, only beginning to receive serious recognition in his fifties and sixties. Ithell Colquhoun, Stanislav Filko, Maqbool Fida Husain, Frank Bernard Dicksee, and Georges Méliès also came to be more widely appreciated later in life.

We invited Open Age participants to take inspiration from each section of the exhibition in order to further their own artistic practice.
