HIDDEN VISIONS: NEW WORK BY ANDREW MILLAR

• The solo exhibition Hidden Visions at Saatchi Gallery showcases new works by British artist Andrew Millar
• Inspired by the artist’s fascination with the natural world and its states of flux and stasis
• The exhibition aims to connect visitors to the parts of nature not usually seen
• The exhibition includes an interactive work which harnesses the electronic pulses of a living mycelium fungal network

London, UK – This Summer, Saatchi Gallery presents Hidden Visions: New Work by Andrew Millar in Gallery 4 showcasing works which invite the viewer to connect with the natural world. Running from Wednesday 7 June through to Sunday 16 July 2023.

Hidden Visions explores the artist’s ongoing interest in the constant fluctuations found in the natural world. Millar’s work contrasts states of stillness and tranquillity inherent in nature with the constant rhythmic movements he observes.

Hidden Visions also highlights Millar’s interest in fungal mycelial colonies, which have been a key focus for the artist since 2020. These rich fungal networks are essential to the functioning of ecosystems, and yet remain largely unseen.

Hidden Visions features an interactive artwork which enables visitors to connect to a network of mycelium fungi displayed in the Gallery. Motion-sensor technology will allow the viewer’s movements to impact the sounds and visuals produced by the mycelium network.

This interactive element will be shown alongside a series of new works which use the distinctive technique honed and developed by Millar over the last 20 years. Using a combination of Polaroid instant film, precious metal leaf and other natural materials, the artist constructs compositions instinctively.

He compares this approach to the act of weaving a tapestry. In this delicate and laborious process, each work is developed, treated, and gilded by hand and sometimes accented with acrylic, ink and aerosol.
